At the end of 2019, with the arrival of the A350 at Air France, I received a mission to make a film on the reception of this plane by the different operational staff: pilots, mechanics, ground staff, stewards and hostesses. Once all the authorizations were obtained by the company, I had the opportunity to follow a crew on a flight from Paris to Toronto to bring back a maximum of images for the film. The film was then published internally on the company's various networks. A few days before a major crisis linked to a certain virus, all this unfortunately went unnoticed ...
Fin 2019, avec l’arrivée de l’A350 chez Air France, j’ai reçu une mission pour effectuer un film sur l’accueil de cet avion par les différents métiers opérationnels : pilotes, mécaniciens, personnels sol, hôtesses et stewards. Une fois toutes les autorisations obtenues par la compagnie, j’ai eu l’opportunité de suivre un équipage sur un vol Paris-Toronto pour rapporter un maximum d’images pour le film. Celui-ci a ensuite été publié en interne sur les différents réseaux de la compagnie. A quelques jours d’une crise majeure liée à un certain virus, tout cela est passé inaperçu malheureusement …
Nevertheless, during the approach I witnessed an extraordinary moment: a breathtaking light, and the palpable emotion of the crew landing the plane for the first time in Toronto. No detail left indifferent, from the sunset descent while surfing on the clouds, to the breakthrough on the city of Toronto covered with an infinite white. The plane, already majestic, had just crossed the Atlantic using 25% less fuel than most long haulers, and was about to land smoothly on the just cleared runway.
Néanmoins, lors de l’approche j’ai été témoin d’un moment hors du commun : une lumière à couper le souffle, et l’émotion palpable de l’équipage posant l’avion pour la première fois à Toronto. Aucun détail ne laissait indifférent, de la descente soleil couchant en surfant sur les nuages, à la percée sur la ville de Toronto nappée d’un blanc infini. L’avion, déjà majestueux, venait de traverser l’Atlantique en consommant 25% de carburant de moins que la plupart des long-courriers, et allait se poser en douceur sur la piste juste déneigée.
So, at the end of 2020 after the success of the World Airports map, we looked for a new type of process to achieve a rendering that would match the pearly immensity of the Toronto landscape and the modernity of the cockpit. We needed something that would reflect the light to highlight the light areas in contrast to the strong colors to make the cockpit stand out.
Alors, fin 2020 après le succès de la World Airports Map, nous avons recherché un nouveau type de procédé pour obtenir un rendu qui soit à la hauteur de l’immensité nacrée du paysage de Toronto et de la modernité du cockpit. Pour faire ressortir ce poste de pilotage hors norme, il fallait un support qui permette de refléter la lumière et mette en valeur les parties claires en contraste avec des couleurs puissantes .
We discovered brushed aluminum, which we then meticulously applied to the light areas with minor touch-ups, and then integrated a frame to give the whole thing some character. Not only does the metal ensure quality, but its solid structure guarantees a long life and a smooth export. The edges, rounded and polished, make the object less sharp. You are then free to use the fastener that we have inserted in the box. In a constant concern of sustainable and recyclable materials, the metal used, as well as all the packaging materials come from recycling channels.
